DOG FOOD RECIPE WITH Childs BLUEBERRIES
I published my recipe for dog food on the web when webs were new and
none of these premium dog foods were available. Although Taste of
the Wild is good--I suspect they use imported blueberries laced with
herbicides, pesticides and fungicides plus although they use
meat--what condition is it in when they use it since no regulations
apply. I also don't like the third ingredient--chicken meal but they
are better than most.
What I feed my dogs is superior to all that is available
anywhere. Copy and use the recipe, if you want.
I have a 25 quart stock pan. I fill it 1/3 water and bring to a
boil. Add 2 lbs brown rice and 9 pounds of ground venison, pork,
turkey or highlander. I mix in a quart of spaghetti sauce. I add a
pound of lentils and a pound of split peas and cook for 30 minutes
on low stirring once or twice. It should be at a slow boil. Then I
add 7 pounds of all natural blueberries--frozen seconds (ask me
about a good price on these by special order at the farmers
markets), 4 pounds of vegetables, a handful of walnuts and two big
containers of oatmeal. Sprinkle in 1/4 c. ground flax seed, 5
tablets (3600 mg) Flax oil, 5 tablets (3600 mg) Chondroitin, 5
tablets (4500 mg) Glucosamine and 5 tablets Fish Oil. Now I don't
really let the blueberries, vegetables or oatmeal cook much because
I want the nutrients available for the dogs. I leave the heat on low
for 10 minutes, stir a last time, cover and let sit overnight to
cool. My wife then packs this up in containers and we place it in
the second refrigerator. This is enough to last our two English
Springer Spaniels a month. We add a bit of dry dog food to each
serving for crunch plus a cup of this mixture twice day. Sometimes
we add milk and also the remainder of our morning fruit smoothie
which has powdered vitamins added. This way the vitamins are not
cooked losing their value.
This will last us a month. The cost is about $8 per batch when using
venison but the price is closer to 28 a month when I buy meat and if
I had to buy 7 pounds of blueberries, add another $14 dollars. So
retail on this is about $50 per month for the very best you can get
for your canine friends...the same as you would spend for a pig in
the poke with commercial, "premium" dog foods.

Blaze
February 2, 2006 is Blaze's (pictured above) birthday. He is the
poster dog for all of the healthy new line of dog foods which has all of
these neat ingredients because he has never eaten the processed, grain
based dog foods of just a few years ago. Since this recipe has been
posted online in 2006, we have seen many dog food companies start
incorporating the ingredients--fabulous! Let's see how long we can
all get our beloved pets to live with proper nutrition.
Our beloved canine companion
of 10 years died of a tumor despite our buying the best and most
highly acclaimed
manufactured dry dog food available. We
decided
to start making our own
dog food for our English Springer Spaniels. Being farmers, we know
a lot about chemical misuse and trust USA products to
some degree,
but really don't trust food
products produced abroad . After the untimely loss of our pet, we feel
strongly that perhaps better food could have added a few more healthy
years to his life.

Blaze, now 6, has only known the food recipe listed above. He is
the poster dog for this recipe. Lord willing, he will live a long life
beyond our wildest hopes and prove our theory right and make all the
time we spend making his dog food worthwhile. Compared to his father,
his head and bones are larger and he has "real" personality. Almost too
smart. Maybe nutrition helped with his development. Dan and
Carrie.
